About the event
Southold Historical Museum, Horton Point Lighthouse, and Fire Island Lighthouse bring you a special lecture with Angela Reich, Fire Island Lighthouse docent and author of Shipwreck of Hopes—a novel inspired by the 1850 wreck of the ship Elizabeth. This historical event played a pivotal role in shaping the early Life Saving Service, led by local residents who patrolled our shores and safeguarded maritime traffic along the nation’s busiest shipping lanes near New York Harbor. A book sale will follow the presentation, $20 cash only, with 20% of the proceeds generously donated to Southold Historical Museum.
Or, if you are interested in the lecture but are unable to attend in person, you can now watch live via Zoom.
