Chartered Statement of Purpose of the Southold Historical Museum:

• To create and promote interest and to further knowledge in history, education, and culture.

• To acquire, preserve and exhibit historic relics.

• To acquire and maintain housing and sites for preservation and exhibition, and

• Promote the preservation of historic structures and sites.

To do this the Museum maintains a Headquarters and Archive as well as a number of historically significant buildings which exhibit some of the museum’s vast collection.
